My kitten was such the good boy yesterday! I was so proud of him, again! He was a trooper when I left him at the vet. It was *much* harder on me then it was him. I received a phone call around noon letting me know that he was in recovery and did just fine.
When I picked him up I met with the vet for outpatient instructions before seeing him. They told me no heavy activity for the next week or so. That means no back-flips while giving for toys. Needless to say I hid all his toys as soon as we got home. I also was instructed to pay attention to his behavior and to check his wounds daily.
I then headed to the counter to pay for his services. After the payment was made, my little guy was brought out. He was already in his carrier (probably had been in there most of the day) and looked all scruffed out. His hair was messed up, his eyes were glazed and he seemed to be distracted and completely oblivious to that fact that I was talking to him. I figured he was probably still feeling the effects of the anesthesia, medications or whatever else that may have been in his system. He also looked like he had been sleeping for days.
After a couple of minutes we were in my Jeep and heading home. That is where the Papillion I know and love came out! It took one street before he starting mewing. He still mews. He has not progressed into a full “meow” yet. Most of the ride home he talked, and I talked back to him. He started rolling around and showing some belly-love.
Once we got home I immediately let him out and he was happy to be out of the carrier. Within minutes he was his usual self – but with me chasing behind him frantically… trying to reduce his jumping, putting down soft blankets for him to nap on. He wanted none of that. He wanted food and to play. I gave him food a couple pieces at a time since the vet told me to be cautious of nausea.
He had NO interest in laying down. He wanted to play and run around. I let him be active a bit, but I did not encourage it and tried to get him to lay down and relax as much as possible. I didn’t want him to pop an artery!
I noticed that when he stretched to scratch, he was pawing everything and not digging his nails in. I took a closer look and noticed that his nails were clipped. Mental note – we are going to start scheduling in some regular clippings! He was SO gentile all evening. This leads me to believe he was merely being clumsy with long claws the past few weeks and NOT trying to be an evil terror!
Anyway, he finally calmed down and napped. Once he relaxed, he was mellow for the rest of the night. He slept calmly and peacefully on a decorative pillow right by my bed – his new night-time sleeping spot.

Wow! Boys must be COMPLETELY different than girls...when I brought my girls home from the vet they were ALL quiet and mellow for hours, and not wanting to be touched too much. Maybe it is cuz Pap is young? (oh ewww..."Pap" makes me think of pap smears...I will never again be too lazy to type out his name)!!
Well, I remember Prancer being out cold for a good day as well. But Papillion is a *very* active kitten, so I think that might be part of it.... BUT nutering is much easier on the kitty then spading.
It's so much easier on boy kitties than girl kitties. My two girls were barely moving to the litter box for about 24 hours.
Oh, and we regularly clip their nails. Otherwise, our couch would be in more shreds than it already is... :-P
