that the tree is still standing and the garland is still up when I get home.

Sounds like a damn good wish to me. LOL Thankfully the most damage my kitties ever did ws knock a couple of balls off the tree (and shatter them on the floor). That's it!
Back when Angela & I lived together, one of her cats climbed the tree while I was in the shower & dumped the whole thing over. The cat stayed puffed up for about an hour after. It was soooo funny.
