Getting nervous again…. Maybe my last post was what started it all? There is a saying, be careful of what you wish for – you just might get it.
I went to a meeting, and as I came back there were a whole pile of emails in my inbox and voicemails on my cell phone.
The voice message was pertaining to the apartment. One of the owners was out of town due to her mother’s illness. She apologized for the lengthy duration of the verification process – which of course is more then understandable. She had a few questions for me, but pretty much said that I was going to get it. She had to wait for my background check to come back, and I am really not worried about that.
So now it’s time to dig up two month’s rent and a pro-rated rent for May. I knew this was coming, but now I have to deal with it. I’ve got the money for this – that is not the issue. I guess its just the fear of the unknown. Knowing that Daniel and I have been on such good terms lately, and just making that step to leave the apartment. I think I need to focus on the good things, which really are wonderful, in order to get through this in one piece. Scaring the CRAP out of me. Anyway, I should have the official word tonight.
Next is the work front. Believe it or not, there still has not been a decision made regarding that role I interviewed for. I’ve found a few more roles that interest me. In addition, a few people have reached out to me regarding roles. I have a few conversations set up for tomorrow as well as a phone interview being scheduled for tomorrow or Friday.
…be careful for what you wish for, you just might get it…

One way I have of coping is by doing repetitive things, specifically with numbers. Sometimes I jokingly, half-heartedly wonder if I have a small touch of mental disability because I do things like rock back and forth when I am really upset… fidget with something repetitively (I can do this for HOURS) and my finding a sense of peace with numbers.
Anyway, today I relied on my old calming habit of writing our my budget. I start with how much I have in the bank and budget out what I have to pay to whom, when and how much. I then repeat this task until I feel that I don’t need to go any further (i.e. same numbers for a months in a row).
Not only is this an exercise that relaxes me, but it also helps me keep in check with my financial goals.
Since all of the changes that have been going on, I just created a budget through the end of the year that is based on the apartment I hope to get. I do this all on paper, I have a format as to which numbers are in pen and which are in pencil. I include things like balances due and how much I intend to have in my savings account.
This newest version goes from May through December. I am *proud* to say that I am still on target to pay off my credit cards by the end of the year. The only difference is that I am looking at November 1st instead of October 15th.
In addition I will be able to contribute a modest number into my savings account. I anticipate that I will be able to purchase all Christmas presents this year in CASH and not rely on those credit cards for the first time EVER.
Did I just mention Christmas???? What I FREAK I am.
Anyway, I have also included when I will be able to make some splurges… like get cable in July. Crap… I have to re-do July through the end of the year because I didn’t factor in a cable bill! Lol I guess I will do that later.
For some reason I don’t find this exercise nearly as relaxing when I do it in excel. I like writing it out, performing the math on my calculator.
Some things I did not consider were role / employment changes. If (WHEN!?!?!?) I take on a new role, I am certain there will be some type of salary increase, even if it is $3 a paycheck… and if I am able to transfer to Southington, my gas costs will cut by half.
Small sigh of relief?
